Like the GLM, the HK269 is a single-shot 40 mm x 46 LV grenade launcher that can be functionally used as an under-mounted secondary launcher on all Heckler & Koch assault rifle models. A special feature of the HK269 is the option of unlocking the barrel either towards the left or right. This ensures identical operating comfort for right-handed and left-handed shooters - especially since all other operating elements of the HK269 are centrally located. With respect to ammunition, all types of lethal and non-lethal agents of the low-velocity calibre 40 mm x 46 can be fired with the HK269. The maximum operational distance is approximately 350 meters.
The swivel direction of the HK269 barrel can be changed quickly and easily by the user. To do this, pull up the captive retaining pins of the barrel axis, remove the barrel, turn it 180 degrees and fasten it again on the opposite side of the receiver. This means that the cartridge feed is ergonomically perfect for both left-handed and right-handed shooters, with the opening side facing the shooter.
