HK SFP9

The pistol HK SFP9 (in some markets HK VP9 )  is a self-loading pistol from the German weapon manufacturer Heckler & Koch in the calibres 9 × 19 mm and .40 S&W (SFP40 or VP40). [2] The model code SFP stands for Striker Fired Pistol . The type designation refers directly to the principle of operation of the pistol: it has a fully pre-tensioned firing pin lock . It was originally developed to replace the HK P7 at the Bavarian police .

The HK SFP9 is a shooting recoil loader with a modified Browning locking system .

In contrast to the previous pistols with plastic handle from Heckler & Koch, the barrel is not unlocked via the spring guide rod and the locking catch lever, but via a steel frame inserted in the handle. This should guarantee a long service life for all weapon parts.

The handle is available in black and RAL 8000 (green-brown) and can be adapted to the shooter's hand using different plastic inserts.

The magazines were taken from the HK P30 pistol .

    Use

The SFP9 is currently mainly used on the American civil market, where the weapon is referred to as the VP9 ( Volkspistole 9 ).

    Police

    Germany

The SFP9 TR variant has a higher trigger weight, a longer trigger path and a longer reset path than the SFP9 SF variant developed for special forces. This is necessary in order to comply with the technical guidelines for police service pistols .

The weapon has been delivered to the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saxony police since late 2016. The SFP9 replaces the HK P7 and P7M8 at the Sachsen police and the SIG Sauer P225 (P6) in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

On December 11, 2017, it was announced that the Berlin police also purchased the SFP9 TR. This is to replace the SIG Sauer P6 pistol that has been in use there for 37 years . The first new service pistols were delivered from January 2018.

On October 10, 2018, it was announced that the Berlin police had sent 1337 of the weapons back to Heckler & Koch with a request for rectification due to a lack of accuracy [6]

On January 12, 2018, Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann announced that Heckler & Koch's SFP9 TR model had won the European police call for tenders. By 2019, the Oberndorf-based company should deliver approximately 40,000 pistols of the SFP9 TR model to the Free State of Bavaria. The switch to the new HK SFP9 TR should have cost the Free State around 30 million euros; on February 13, 2020, the Interior Ministry in Munich announced on request that the actual costs were only around 20 million euros. The launch began in the fall of 2018.

The police forces of Lower Saxony (successor to the HK P2000 ) and Brandenburg (replacement for the SIG Sauer P228 ) also planned to procure the SFP9 TR from spring 2017.

    Luxembourg

The Luxembourg police are also planning to equip their officers with the SFP9 for around 2 million euros, replacing the previous Smith & Wesson 686 service weapon . Delivery has been running since mid-2017.

    Switzerland

The Basel-Stadt cantonal police also equip their officers with the SFP9 SF. There it replaces the SIG Sauer P228 .
